68 million girls could be forced to undergo the procedure by 2030
The brave women fighting against female genital mutilation
Over 200 million women and girls alive today have been forced to undergo female genital mutilation (FGM). A further 68 million girls could join their number by 2030 unless more progress is made in eradicating the practice. Teliwel Diallo endured FGM twice before the age of 16 and has become a powerful campaigner against the practice.

In 1977 Nhan Phan and her family fled from the war in Vietnam in a tiny fishing boat, not knowing whether they would survive the perilous journey to safety. Last year, to mark the fortieth anniversary of their arrival in Australia, Nhan decided to ‘pay it forward’ and raise money for refugees as part of Team UNHCR.
