California utility regulators are set to vote Thursday on changes to the state's booming rooftop solar market that they say will more evenly spread the cost of energy and help reduce reliance on fossil fuels in the evening.
This auction is the third major offshore wind energy lease sale this year—and the first-ever for the Pacific region—and resulted in high bids from five companies totaling $757.1 million.
Barry Smitherman, a former chairman of both the Public Utilities Commission of Texas and the Railroad Commission, joined the Texas Power Podcast to discuss Texas' geothermal energy opportunity and the electricity market redesign that's approaching a critical date.
The companies aim to pursue development opportunities in Esmeralda County where geothermal research and advanced exploration already exist.
The company said it is planning for gigawatt-hour, grid-connected deployments in 2023 and 2024.

To meet its ambitious climate goals, the U.S. must develop 100 GW of energy storage by 2030. While energy storage capacity in the U.S. tripled last year, the market has only made a small dent with just more than 4.6 GW of operating storage.
MassCEC will focus investments made by the 2030 Fund on Net Zero grid, high-performance buildings, clean transportation, offshore wind, and other high-impact areas.
