The flame ignited by change can take life and give life, generating the infinite cycle of destruction and rebirth. Destruction and rebirth is at the heart of creativity and moving from one to the other lies in the act of problem solving. The problem strikes the match, the match lights the flame, the flame generates the solution. The flame is creativity. The act of creation produces new life, be it planetary systems, flora and fauna, humans, ideas, art, and on and on. The flame is elusive, mesmerizing, destructive, life-giving, gorgeous.
Innovative methods for catching light Abstract expressionist Richard Diebenkorn explained that his paintings were born out of a process of construction and destruction, construction and destruction - using his creative flame to work the changes with every added and subtracted mark in a painting. For him it was about experiencing the mystery in the process as opposed to the finality of the product. Sparking the creative flame builds resilience - the key to survival and transformation. There is a reason Resilience is a current "buzz" concept because the faster things change, the greater the destruction, the more we need resilience to give life to the new and keep on going. Making art builds resilience. Keep the flame alive . . .
