I’m thrilled to announce that, for the third year in a row, the Forward won the highest number of the American Jewish Press Association’s Simon Rockower Awards — known as the “Jewish Pulitzers.” Our 32 awards included 19 first-place wins, also a Forward record!
Among the full list of winning stories are some of the Forward’s most ambitious and creative reporting during a challenging year:
‘Everybody needs to be uncomfortable’: Rachel Goldberg-Polin’s tireless campaign to bring her son home, by editor-in-chief Jodi Rudoren won first place in the Profile category, one of numerous awards recognizing the Forward’s reporting on the ground from Israel.
Seeking Relatives: How one newspaper column saved lives, reunited families and changed the course of Jewish history, by Andrew Silverstein with translations by Forward archivist Chana Pollack, won three different awards for its poignant storytelling of our role in reuniting families after the Holocaust.
Zelenskyy joins Canadian Parliament’s ovation to 98-year-old veteran who fought with Nazis, by contributor Lev Golinkin, won first place for a five-part investigative series that broke the Canadian scandal of recognition and financial support of former Nazi soldiers.
Our Rockower Award wins follow on numerous other nods to the Forward’s journalism from the prestigious Los Angeles Press Club and Deadline Club, as well as the most wins awarded this year by the Religion News Association.
It's never been more important to tell the American Jewish story in all its complexity. Please join me in wishing a mazel tov to Jodi and her team for their creativity and indefatigable commitment to excellence!
