Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

This week, I was reminded that the promise of America begins with the freedom to learn and the courage to dream. Education is more than just a classroom—it’s the gateway to opportunity, the spark that ignites potential, and the foundation on which we build our future. That’s why I introduced the High-Quality Charter Schools Act, a step forward in expanding school choice and empowering families to find the best path for their children. Because when parents have a voice, and students have options, America wins.

But opportunity isn’t limited by age or circumstance. Just look at Landon Thorne, who at 82 earned his master’s degree—proving it’s never too late to pursue a dream or redefine what’s possible. His story reminds us that with faith, hard work, and perseverance, it’s never too late to learn, grow, and chase new dreams. Read more about his story below!

As your senator, I’m committed to fighting every day for policies that honor those values, strengthen our communities, and open doors for all generations. Together, we will keep building an America where the keys to success are in the hands of every student willing to reach for them!

"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.'"

Expanding School Choice

As the co-chair of the Congressional School Choice Caucus and member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, I am working hard to transform the nation’s education system and ensure every student has access to a quality education.

That’s why I introduced the High-Quality Charter Schools Act, which expands school choice by implementing a tax credit for qualified charitable contributions to nonprofit charter school organizations.

Building a stronger America starts in our classrooms, and the High-Quality Charter Schools Act invests in a future where every student has the keys to unlock the American Dream!

The Hill: Stablecoin bill clears early Senate floor hurdle in win for crypto industry

The Senate voted to move forward with consideration of legislation to create a regulatory framework for payment stablecoins Monday night, bringing the key crypto bill one step closer to final passage.

Sixteen Democrats joined all but two Republicans in voting to end debate on a motion to proceed on the GENIUS Act.

The vote marks a reversal for the group of more than a dozen Democrats, who joined with the rest of their colleagues to vote down the legislation earlier this month amid a dispute with Republicans.

“Tonight’s vote is a welcome and long-overdue step toward asserting U.S. leadership in digital assets,” Senate Banking Chair Tim Scott (R-S.C.) said in a statement. “After playing politics, I’m glad many of my Democratic colleagues have returned to the table and are supporting a bipartisan product they helped shape.”
