By Chad Calder | Staff writer Heartbreaking: Awash in guns, life is cheap on the streets of New Orleans — scores are settled, arguments escalate, bystanders are hit by gunfire. In every case, there are always stunned friends and family left picking up the pieces. The latest is particularly tough to swallow. Dillan Burton, 7, was riding in the backseat of the car in Algiers with her mother and younger sister Sunday night when the vehicle was struck by gunfire. She died later at the hospital. On Monday, her mother spoke with Michelle Hunter. Omicron surge: Hospitalizations doubled, cases tripled. The numbers over the last week show the omicron variant has been spreading rapidly among those gathered at work, home and social events. Monday saw long lines at testing and urgent care centers throughout the metro area.
