The Front Page: Saints drop another squeaker, Mitch Landrieu to lead on infrastructure, and more

By Chad Calder | Staff writer

EDGED OUT AGAIN: The Saints lost by two points for the second week in a row, this time dropping their game against the Tennessee Titans 23-21.

Unlike last week, when dropped passes were a key factor in their loss to the Falcons, a major culprit Sunday was missed extra points, though Jeff Duncan has some thoughts about the officiating. There were, of course, other factors, as Rod Walker points out. But we've got the the game covered from all angles. Oh, and Mark Ingram is now the Saints all-time rushing leader.

INFRASTRUCTURE MITCH: In some late-breaking news, Former Mayor Mitch Landrieu was tapped to oversee the implementation of the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that will be signed today. See why President Joe Biden thought he was right for the job here.

ELECTION ANALYSIS: LaToya Cantrell was re-elected mayor Saturday with a solid 65% of the vote, but what does the rest of the evening's results say about what comes next. Jeff Adelson reads the political tea leaves.

Meanwhile, all but one of the district races on the New Orleans City Council are headed for a runoff, and we've got the low down on the races for District B, C, D and E. There will also be a runoff for Sheriff between Marlin Gusman and Susan Hutson. You'll find all of our election coverage here.

PUZZLING PORTRAIT: Doug MacCash has a fascinating tale of a 175-year-old painting of four children — one an enslaved Black boy — commissioned by a wealthy Royal Street family. The inclusion of the boy in the painting and the way he is depicted are just two of the mysteries that persist about the portrait.

PLAYING POLITICS? Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams and his law partner want a jury to hear evidence Williams says shows selective and vindictive prosecution of him for alleged federal tax crimes. Williams claims he was targeted for prosecution for political reasons.
