Hello again, LSU fans. Friday was, if nothing else, one of the most consequential days at LSU in years. Here’s how it all went down. LSU released a law firm’s report on a series of failures to properly report and investigate allegations of sexual misconduct and domestic violence on campus, much of which included key figures within the athletic department. First, Andrea Gallo and Mark Ballard gave an overall look at the findings, which discovered "failure of leadership" and dozens of problems within LSU: The report also revealed that then-athletic director Joe Alleva recommended former football coach Les Miles be fired for cause in 2013 because of his "inappropriate behavior," including crude language and one-on-one contact with student workers — even after he’d been told to stop. Miles wasn't let go until 2016. Brooks Kubena's story is here. For Miles, the fallout started Friday afternoon, when his new supervisor, Kansas athletic director Jeff Long, placed Miles on administrative leave. As for disciplinary actions at LSU, the university suspended without pay executive deputy athletic director Verge Ausberry (30 days) and senior associate athletic director Miriam Segar (21 days). For some, that punishment won’t be enough. Columnist Scott Rabalais weighed in, noting that in full view, it’s clear that LSU’s failures were far and wide — and it’s possible LSU still hasn’t done enough. Lastly, you can read the full investigative report from Husch Blackwell here. As for the games themselves, the LSU baseball team allowed 22 runs to Oral Roberts in the program’s worst loss since 2007. The LSU men’s basketball team will finish its regular season Saturday at Missouri, in search of a No. 3 seed at the SEC tournament. Finally, its last regular-season meet, the LSU gymnasts posted two perfect 10s in a win over Missouri. To our paying subscribers: Thank you for supporting our sportswriters’ work.
