Dear Friend,
Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!
Protecting Parents’ Rights to be Involved
As the Biden administration ramps up efforts to tell schools how to operate, I am working to put children’s education back in the hands of those who know best: their parents. I recently signed a resolution supporting parents’ rights to be fully and actively involved in their kids’ education. Click here to read more.
I was also honored to welcome former Secretary Condoleezza Rice to my office for a meeting with members of the Congressional School Choice Caucus about the future of education. I believe that a good education provides a lifeline for kids who feel stuck in poverty, as I once did. Over the coming months, my colleagues and I will work together to extend that lifeline to all young Americans and ensure parents’ voices are heard.

Democrats’ Shocking Immigration Plan
This week, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Department of Justice is considering paying $450,000 per person to illegal immigrants whose families were separated at the border. This move would cost American taxpayers upwards of a billion dollars at a time when they are already struggling with raging inflation due to Democrats’ reckless spending. Paying those who have broken our nation’s laws is wrong—not only for Americans, but also for the immigrants who don’t need another incentive to cross our border illegally and put their families in harm’s way. My colleagues and I introduced an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2022 that would block this plan entirely. Click here to read more about our effort.
Fighting for our Economy
President Biden announced this week that his vaccine mandate for businesses with more than 100 employees will go into effect on January 4. In response, 41 of my Senate colleagues and I moved to formally overturn the mandate through the Congressional Review Act. After months of economic shutdowns during the pandemic, we should all be working together to get our economy going again—not tearing people from their livelihoods. Sincerely,
