Trust.  Without it, nothing holds together.  As Socrates noted, even thieves have to trust one another in order to pull off a heist.

Once you break a trusted relationship, you can never repair it to its original condition.  Oh, it may look the same to an outsider, but for those who saw it break, they can still see the cracks.

Trust is a vessel that we seek to pour relationships into, allowing a part of us to feel safe and giving us the freedom to concentrate on “what is really important.”

Take trust away, and give people a reason to doubt you, and “what is really important” will never occur, as Fight or Flight and a less civilized state of nature regresses people and their relationships into less productive behaviors. 

May we all craft lasting vessels.

Some skeptics think this is impossible, and that one or the other must end up taking precedence. But most of the time, business leaders can do right by their staff and the consumers they serve.
