If this year has collectively taught us anything, it’s that uncertainty is a way of life.
Most of us have had the experience of believing that our life is on solid footing, only to have it suddenly upended. A job loss, illness, financial troubles, the death of a loved one. The stress of something national or even local that is way beyond our control.
Life is so often defined in the small moments that—understandably—play an oversized role. Uncertainty in action.
Of course, the opposite is also true—and it’s in the things that we know will happen that the greatest joys can often be found. Seasons change (and we all have our favorites), holidays and birthdays are celebrated in ways big and small, and the Sun always rises.
Without uncertainty, we would never fully appreciate certainty.
This year isn’t over yet, but even when the calendar flips to 2021, there will be moments in our lives that will continue to bring uncertainty. This is normal. We will persevere.
At the same time, there is always a lot to look forward to on the positive front, even just among the things that we know will happen—always beyond a shadow of a doubt and often every day. Really, for example, who doesn’t love the quiet beauty and inherent optimism of a sunrise?
Those who have served in our armed services have faced the types of uncertainty that many of us can’t even imagine. On November 11, we will honor everyone who has served. Learn about the history and meaning behind Veterans Day and the difference between this holiday and Memorial Day. We also gratefully celebrate Remembrance Day in Canada.
On Veterans Day (and every day!), make sure that you display the U.S. flag properly.
