Good morning Valued Subscriber,
Chris Steel has defended decisions made to allow a replacement pool on the site of the Phillip Pool site to be only half the length - although he admitted he doesn't know who requested the changes to the Territory Plan to allow it, Lanie Tindale reports.
But the pool site is a lesser worry for Mr Steel, also the Transport Minister, amid the furore over the botched MyWay+ transport ticketing launch. As Transport Canberra announced a review of its decision to go-live despite real concerns about elements of the system, the minister faced new questions about app-users' data security. It's that time of year when NAPLAN results go live, and education reporter Sarah Lansdown looks at the schools making a difference with higher-than-average scores for students from similar backgrounds. But while progress is being made, Sarah writes that there is plenty of room for improvement - especially in the key and contentious area of literacy.
If, like me, you've been impressed by the immensely knowledgeable guides at the Australian War Memorial, Amy Martin shares some insight into how they're chosen and trained. And this year the memorial is calling for new volunteers to join the team - and it's pushing for a more diverse group. Today should be a partly cloudy day, with a medium chance of showers and an expected top of 27 degrees. John-Paul Moloney, managing editor |
