Wherever you are, Happy Thanksgiving! If you're thinking the only dang thing you're thankful for is that we're one step closer to putting 2020 to bed, we feel you. But hang on: There are still reasons to be grateful today (and every day) and we're going to help you find them. Ready? HealthCentral's columnist Lene Anderson suggests starting with a practice of listing three things at the end of every day that either gave you joy, made you smile, or helped you grow. While acknowledging that she will never be grateful for her rheumatoid arthritis (chronic pain and fatigue? Not much to be thankful for there!), Anderson does believe that the strong, thoughtful, independent person she has become is due, at least in part, to her illness—and that's something to be grateful for. Can that attitude of gratitude find its foothold across all conditions? Could you really find a reason to feel grateful with, say, ulcerative colitis? Well, while the disease itself can wreak havoc on your ability to form new relationships, you learn pretty quickly who's a keeper and who is not worth your time, before you invest too much energy in the dating process. And that's something to be thankful for, right? |
