The growing credit card debt problem

Consumers are not only spending more and putting it on credit cards but paying those balances off less, the Federal Reserve reported last week. 

In the Lafayette area, that much is true. 

The share of borrowers in the area with several delinquent credit card debt at the end of 2023 was the highest in 15 years. Other categories painted an uncomfortable picture at the state of the buyer, including how those with nonprime credit score and lower incomes are feeling it the most.
