Back in May 2013, when I joined Guardian Australia as founding political editor, I wanted to be part of a project that brought a new, independent, fierce and progressive voice to one of the most heavily concentrated media markets in the world. Today, seven years after I became editor, I believe our reporting has made a difference. From the climate to politics, indigenous affairs to social justice, welfare policy to the treatment of asylum seekers, Guardian Australia journalism has shifted conversations, sparked inquiries, and given a voice to the marginalised. Debate and discourse is deeper, broader and better for the fact that we are here. But the fight for progress continues, and our mission remains: to report for the powerless and follow the facts wherever they lead; to help our readers make sense of the world as it is, and find ideas about how we can act to create a better one. As we celebrate our 10th birthday, we've set a target of an additional 5,000 supporter contributions. If you can, please consider supporting Guardian Australia today. Thank you. |
