The first full book I ever read was A Shattered Visage by Ravi Zacharias. I was 18. (Yes, I made it through high school without reading books.) When I read Ravi’s book I was electrified. I was blown away by his clear mind and persuasive arguments. It’s no exaggeration to say it set me on the path to being an author and editor.
So, you can imagine how confused and saddened I was to see the news of the hidden sexual sin and abuse that was revealed after his death. I couldn’t wrap my mind around how someone with such a deep understanding of God could abuse hundreds of image-bearers—and then lie for years to cover it up.
This report on the investigation his ministry conducted is hard, but important reading. It reveals not only the extent of the late apologist’s abuse, but also sheds light on how he twisted spirituality to justify and cover his actions. It’s a grim reminder of the high cost of hidden sin. I also recommend our resource on Accountability for Church Leaders. This is a time for all of us in ministry to search our souls and make sure we’re doing everything possible to guard against sin.
