Tyrann Mathieu officially joins Saints, ready to 'lift a lot of people'

Welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Thursday, May 5, otherwise known as Honey Badger Hangover Day.

The signing of free agent safety Tyrann Mathieu dominated the news this week as Saints fans celebrated the return of their hometown hero.

Donning a snazzy black Saints hat, Mathieu met the media on Wednesday after signing his three-year contract earlier in the afternoon. The former St. Augustine High School and LSU standout called the union with his hometown team "a dream come true" and a "full-circle" career experience.

As beat writer Amie Just reports, Mathieu "didn’t sign with just any team in any city. He’s playing for his."

Mathieu said he doesn't know yet what jersey number he will select, but that shouldn't stop Saints fans from pre-ordering plenty of them. Amie Just has the details on how to get your Honey Badger Saints jersey.

The Mathieu news eclipsed the other big news of the day when the NFL officially announced that the Saints would play the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 2 in London, England as part of the league's International Game Series. The Week 4 game coincides with the London Marathon so it should be a busy sports weekend in London.

And finally, it looks like the Saints are starting to make some believers out of people outside of New Orleans. Zach Ewing reports on how the Saints have become one of the biggest movers in Super Bowl odds by Vegas bookmakers. Spoiler alert: It's a positive move if you are a Saints fan.

That's it for today. Make sure to check NOLA.com throughout the day on Thursday as our team continues to provide wall-to-wall coverage of the Saints this offseason.
