I hope y'all had a good week! Here's a quick run down of some of this week's stories you need to know about.

 

The House finally passed the CROWN Act to ban the discrimination of Black hairstyles in workplaces and schools. 

 

“For too long, Black girls have been discriminated against and criminalized for the hair that grows on our heads and the way we move through and show up in this world,” Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass) said during debate prior to the bill’s passage.

 

Also, Republicans are doing what they can to prevent the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson — who's posed to become the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court — including criticizing her defense of Guantánamo detainees and falsely accusing her of going easy on sex offenders.

 

And on Wednesday, Jussie Smollett was released from jail after and appeals court ordered that he be released from released from jail during the appeal of his conviction on charges that he lied to police about a racist and homophobic attack.
