Don't forget your offsite backup!

Do you know the 3-2-1 rule of backup? 3 copies of your data, on 2 different kinds of media, at least 1 of which kept offsite. That last element is crucial! A file deleted by accident can be restored from your local backup, but there are some disasters that only an offsite backup can prepare you for, such as flood, fire, or lightning strikes. These days, however, the much bigger threats are actually man-made: hacking, viruses or ransomware. No-one is safe from cyber attacks, as seen recently in Baltimore and beyond, where an N.S.A creation is now wreaking havoc on government systems.

Only a backup with a physical "air gap" between your system and the security copies, can prevent your data from these attacks. Each storage technology  - disk, LTO tape and cloud - offers solutions to achieve this level of security.
So go offsite and offline!

Make the most of P5 and NAS

Since the release of version 5.6, Archiware P5 is certified to run on devices from three major NAS vendors: QNAP, Synology and NETGEAR. Running P5 directly on a NAS makes a lot of sense - it's convenient, and it saves costs for additional server hardware. In the case of QNAP, it is even possible to connect an LTO tape drive to the NAS directly, making it a really compact setup for secure backups or archiving.
