The Intimate Sketchbooks After many months of scanning and compiling hundreds of pages from my sketchbooks, I am delighted to announce that my bumber book of drawings 'The Intimate Sketchbooks' is now available from my online store. With more than 200 pages of its enough to satisfy the curiosity of the most inquisitive linework fan...
'Selecting one or two drawings from each sketchbook was no easy task. The compulsive nature in which these shell like figures and compositions evolve have consumed around a hundred sketchbooks in the last 20 years. Alongside my daily rantings and ravings each journal is filled with random scribbles, visual notes, street findings and more eligible drawings. They have proved invaluable to the process of my practice. With this publication I wanted to compile some of my favourite images and include some earlier ones to illustrate where this side of my visual language has developed from. Many will note the difference between these and my larger charcoal drawings. This I believe is because I have used the sketchbook primarily for working studies as opposed to a direct physical expression onto the paper, although the automatic nature of their execution could well be described as expressive ... They are placed in an approximate chronological order associated to the city in which I was living at that period. I have edited them with the intention of retaining the construction lines and the grubby charcoal and graphite fingerprints often lost in higher contrast depictions of a sketch.
Proudly, I present this compilation of over 200 working sketchbook drawings in their rawest nature. ' |
