The Kids Are Chronically Online

When Mandy Majors’ college daughter calls her, she drops everything. Getting ready to host a party? The prep can wait. Absolutely exhausted and about to fall asleep? Majors will rally for an hour-long FaceTime.

But she didn’t always use to parent that way. On a new episode of Viral Jesus, Majors reflects on her mothering habits when her daughter was in elementary school. Majors shares the moment when she realized she wanted to facilitate more open conversations with her then nine-year-old daughter who had been exposed to sexually graphic content by a peer at school.

Now, Majors is an award-winning author, cohost of the podcast nextTalk, and founder of the nextTalk nonprofit organization which helps create cultures of honest conversations in homes, churches, and schools to keep kids safe in a digital world. As we navigate raising children in the age of phones and screens, may Majors’ humility, perseverance, and openness encourage us along the way.
