Hello QDT listeners,
This week we wrapped up our mini-series with Jessie Stevens, author of Heartsick. The show, The Beginning of the End, chronicles three new stories of heartsickness and how it was ultimately overcome. Jessie ends the series by saying, "The more we allow ourselves to feel romantic rejection and let the grief pass through us, the better use we are to others. The language of heartbreak becomes a gift we are able to pass on from one person to another.
One thing I recognized in Ana, Patrick and Claire, and the subjects of these stories I have told throughout this podcast, was the profound sense of aloneness each of them felt in their grief. It felt for each of them like no-one understood." We hope this series has brought you some sense of community in heartbreak and tools for dealing with it.
The series is complete, you can listen to all three episodes here. If you would like to read a transcript, you can find those here: Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3. If you love Jessie Stevens as much as we do, consider buying her new book, Heartsick , which features three different stories of heartsickness.

High Times in the Low Parliament | Lana Baker is Aldgate’s finest scribe, with a sharp pen and an even sharper wit. Gregarious, charming, and ever so eager to please, she agrees to deliver a message for another lovely scribe in exchange for kisses and ends up getting sent to Low Parliament by a temperamental fairy as a result.
As Lana transcribes the endless circular arguments of Parliament, the debates grow tenser and more desperate. A hung vote will cause Parliament to flood and a return to endless war. Lana must rely on an unlikely pair of comrades—Bugbite, the curmudgeonly fairy, and Eloquentia, the bewitching human deputy—to save humanity (and maybe even woo one or two lucky ladies), come hell or high water. | |
