The Legacy Of Tish Murtha’s Photography From Her Daughter’s Perspective

Tish Murtha’s austere photography series Youth Unemployment documents the lives of children growing up in rough Newcastle neighbourhoods. Her daughter, Ella Murtha, spoke to us in a recent interview and told us that her mother’s dramatic black and white images, illustrating the dereliction of young lives in the 1980s demonstrate a “stark warning” for posterity.
