Rain in New Orleans is a big deal. Drainage in New Orleans is a really big deal. So folks took notice Wednesday when the New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board said a turbine tripped offline during a massive storm that put several feet of water on some city streets. The turbines power the drainage pumps and their importance can't be understated. The exact cause of the problem was still being investigated. And no doubt, Wednesday morning’s storms were so heavy there might well have been some street flooding regardless. But it’s not very comforting to hear of potential problems with the machinery we depend on to keep New Orleans from flooding. Check out that story here.
