What's making news in New Orleans...

with staff writer Bob Warren

Prepare for another heavy day of press conferences across the region. But you’ll want to follow closely: Several parish governments are expected to provide details about their reopening plans.

Gov. John Bel Edwards said Monday that the state would ease some of the coronavirus-related restrictions on businesses starting Friday, another step in the phased-in reopening of the economy that has been largely shuttered in recent weeks.

Most area parishes are expected to follow the state’s lead, but some could continue more restrictive policies. Reporters Chad Calder, Sara Pagones and Jessica Williams have been following that story.

Restaurants are among those businesses hit hardest by the coronavirus restrictions. Restaurant writer Ian McNulty has chronicled their creativity in finding ways to stay afloat. But, he writes today, there’s a long road ahead and some won’t make it.

So many of us are working from home these days. That includes the folks we watch on the evening news. That means anchors broadcasting from living rooms and kitchens. And as Leslie Carde’ reports, learning to work around barking dogs and crying babies.

Thinking a September Las Vegas trip to watch the Saints play the Raiders might be a nice break? Well, social distancing and coronavirus-spurred restrictions won’t be your only concerns. Jeff Nowak writes that you should be prepared to pay an awful lot of money for that game ticket.

Finally, we've included a little something from cartoonist Walt Handelsman to brighten your day. Hope you enjoy.

All that – and more – in today’s Lunch Line. As always, thanks for reading. And don't forget to wash your hands.
