The humble kindness of Matthew Mole

I remember being at Matthew Mole's Ghost album launch in late 2019, writes Channel24's Music Editor Nikita Coetzee. It was an intimate affair - weird, wonderful, and a little quirky, just like the singer himself.

A moment that stood out was when Matthew was about to play a popular song from one of his previous albums. "I don't want to assume that everyone listens to my music," he said, introducing the track as though it had not spent weeks on SA radio charts.

That's the same energy he carries with him now during our Zoom chat - he's humble, shies away from the term "celebrity" and uses air quotation marks every time he says his own name.
