Brian McMillan of Structured Products at Investec talked to me about the Investec Nikkei 225 Autocall.
It offers exposure to the Nikkei 225 index over a period of up to five years with an enhanced return of up to 17% per annum in ZAR or 11.5% per annum in USD. Importantly, there is 100% capital protection provided the index does not drop by more than 30%.

Local company news:
Ghost Bites is brought to you by Fedgroup.
Bell Equipment got people very excited with two trading statements that highlighted a juicy jump in HEPS. Some cold water was poured on that exuberance with the release of results though, as there's no dividend for shareholders. The problem? From what I can see, it's as much about the balance sheet moves in the latest period as it is about the working capital forecasts.
At Ascendis, the group is finally profitable again. There are important adjustments to work through and understand, but the direction of travel is clearly positive. What will this mean for the take-private offer on the table and the willingness of shareholders to accept it?
We also saw property updates coming in from Emira and Heriot. In these sorts of companies, the balance sheet is always just as important as the results from the properties themselves. RMH Holdings is also relevant in this sector.
You can also check out the latest from Renergen, Workforce and York Timber as well. I must encourage you to work through the Little Bites section, as a vast number of companies got announcements out before the Easter weekend.

Macroeconomic Update The dollar is trading near the highest levels seen in recent months after US ISM Manufacturing PMI printed well above estimates - the first expansion in ISM Manufacturing since September 2022. US Treasury Yields have bounced, with the two-year above the 4.7% mark.
Gold hit a new record high of $2,265.49 yesterday before slipping back to close slightly lower. The stronger PMI numbers also gave a boost to oil demand expectations, causing a rise in Brent Crude prices.
Key indicators: USD/ZAR R18.93; US 10-year 4.31%; Gold $2,256; Platinum ZAR R17,161; Brent Crude $87.84
This macroeconomic update is based on TreasuryONE's morning update. |

International company news:
I've made mention of Home Depot a couple of times before here. The company is pushing harder and harder into the professional side of the market, targeting repeat customers who bring a much higher lifetime value than the occasional DIY enthusiast.
The latest news in this strategy is that Home Depot is acquiring SRS Distribution in a mammoth $18.25 billion deal. This is highly complementary to the other strategic initiative underway around the opening of distribution centres to stock large quantities of items that pros needs on a regular basis. CNBC reports that this is the largest acquisition in Home Depot's history.
This is just one example of the global giants that we cover in detail in Magic Markets Premium. Our latest report is a recap on Ferrari. You can get our entire research library for just R99/month. It pays to know what's going on out there - literally. |
