Anthony Mackie and a New Orleans East movie studio. Chasing Deshaun Watson.

By Bob Warren

Making movies: New Orleans native Anthony Mackie, perhaps best known for playing the Falcon in the Marvel comics franchise, plans to open a movie studio in New Orleans East, Tony McAuley reports today, citing several sources. Mackie recently purchased 20 acres for the project.

Chasing Deshaun: The Saints are pushing hard to convince Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson that New Orleans is his next landing spot. Team brass – including owner Gayle Benson – met with Watson again Wednesday night in Atlanta, where he had just wrapped a meeting with the Falcons. Lot of moving parts in this one, including Watson’s legal issues. Amie Just has the latest.

CCC survives: The name of the Crescent City Connection won’t be changing, after all. Citing growing controversy, the sponsor of a bill that sought to rename it after former Gov. Edwin Edwards said he’s pulling the plug.

Towering presence: For decades, the Hibernia Tower has, well, towered, over the city’s skyline, a favorite downtown landmark. Once Louisiana’s tallest building at a whopping 23 stories, the building now is perhaps best known for the ever-changing nighttime colors of its cupola. But, Mike Scott writes, it has a long history.
