The national flameout of Gavin Newsom

For years, California Gov. Gavin Newsom has been campaigning for the presidency.

Los Angeles Unified School District students came back to their campuses last week, with all the attendant opportunities — Another school year for our young ones!

This year, the dysfunctional Democratic family ignored all of it as Hunter joined the rest of the Biden clan onstage at the convention as if nothing was wrong.

If the political establishment is ever going to be defeated, it must first be understood.

We can only guess their motives, but it’s time for those offices to put aside any worries about politics and step to the plate to protect the public.

Re “Newsom tout’s crime package” (Aug. 17): So Newsom is so afraid of Prop. 36 passing, he signed 10 bills touting a crackdown on crime. It is not just retail theft that has grown so much, it is burglary of homes by groups of men during the night either from South America or gangs in L.A. The only deterrent that works is prison. But Newsom only cares about his budget and what increased incarceration would cost. People are moving out of these areas as they just aren’t safe when the burglars will come into occupied homes.
