Dear Reader,
Change is afoot, with the news that England will return to a tougher regional tier system from next week, after the end of the national lockdown. The aim is for families to be able to celebrate Christmas together, but some Conservative rebels are not happy. Stay up to date with the latest through our politics liveblog, while our political team has the details of what the latest changes will mean for you.
With Christmas on the horizon, we are continuing to raise money for our Charity Appeal. One of this year's excellent causes is Carers UK, which supports the millions of unsung heroes who care for family members with long-term illnesses. Paddy Magrane spoke to the former Sex Pistol, John Lydon, now a full-time carer for his wife Nora, who has Alzheimer’s Disease. In this moving piece, Lydon explains the joy and tears that come from looking after someone you love, but who is now totally reliant on you.
I have been enjoying this series of The Crown, although it appears to be the most controversial, due to the portrayal of Diana, Princess of Wales and her relationship with the rest of the Royal family. However, in this thoughtful piece, historian Andrew Roberts argues that it is Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, who has been truly wronged. I wonder if you agree.
Finally, it is 30 years since one of the strangest moments in British Airways history. Don’t miss this story of heroism in the air: it's a must-read.
Chris
