The objective is Omaha

The LSU baseball Tigers played Omaha on a chilly Friday afternoon at Alex Box Stadium.

The dream, the goal, the ultimate plan: play in Omaha on a sunny June afternoon in the College World Series.

To get there, the Tigers will need plenty of pitching. They got that, even though the bats were chilled, with Friday starter Kade Anderson and the reliever corps keeping No. 3 LSU unbeaten with a 4-2 victory over the Mavericks.

Expected heavy rain Sunday has forced another change to the LSU schedule. Koki Riley tells you all about it.

The LSU gymnastics team went to Kentucky on Friday and fought for a 197.200-197.075 victory. It wasn't the best score of the season, but it kept LSU tied for first in the SEC with Oklahoma and kept the No. 3 Tigers on pace for a share of the SEC regular-season title. Freshman Kailin Chio was outstanding once again.

The No. 7 LSU softball team also stayed unbeaten Friday with a doubleheader sweep, running its record to 12-0.

The LSU men's basketball team hosts No. 2 Florida Saturday (5 p.m., SEC Network), the start of a brutal closing stretch to the season for the Tigers. Still, would you believe the Tigers have a legitimate shot to make the NIT for the second straight year? Our Toyloy Brown tells you how.

At 26-2, the No. 7 LSU are of course already a cinch to make their NCAA Tournament. But as the postseason draws near, the Tigers' persistent issues at point guard aren't getting much better.

Finally, I've got a column from this week's SEC-Big Ten meeting in New Orleans, where the two mega-conferences are leading the headlong charge into college football's future, for better or worse.

Thanks for reading and subscribing, everyone.

Enjoy your sports weekend.
