Sean McDonnell reports the U.S Patent and Trademark Office issued the registered trademark Tuesday for use on branded products associated with the university and its athletic and collegiate programs.

TODAY IN OHIO

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has settled 20 of the 24 civil suits against him by massage therapists, who accuse him of sexual misconduct during appointments. We're talking about this dramatic turn of events and why Watson departed from his staunch defense, on Today in Ohio, clevleand.com's daily half-hour podcast.

STATEHOUSE & POLITICS

Missing Jordan: The hearings into the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol have been a relatively Jim Jordan-free affair, despite him being subpoenaed by the House committee. Sabrina Eaton explores whether Jordan could surface in the hearings or if the hearings will continue to focus on Trump and his immediate circle of advisors.

Gas-tax relief: President Joe Biden encouraged lawmakers to suspend the federal gas tax and is also prodding governors to pause state-level gas taxes to bring some relief to motorists struggling to keep up with high fuel prices. Andrew Tobias reports that Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine isn’t sold on the idea, which he has rejected in the past, citing a need for the tax revenue to fund road and bridge projects.

Rachel Bloomekatz: Another judicial appointment hearing turned into a partisan showdown after Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee targeted Columbus attorney Rachel Bloomekatz’s views on gun control and youthful offenders. Sabrina Eaton reports that the questioning came as lawmakers considered Bloomekatz’s qualifications to become a United States Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit.

METRO

Another appeal: Disgraced former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora signaled on Wednesday that he intends to make another appeal of his new 23-year prison sentence. Adam Ferrise reports that the case will head to the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Fireworks: Setting off consumer-grade fireworks within Cleveland city limits will continue to be illegal, despite a new state law taking effect July 1 that allows Ohioans to shoot off fireworks on certain holidays, like the Fourth of July. Courtney Astolfi reports that Mayor Justin Bibb tried to enact legislation to strengthen the ban before the holiday, but it has stalled in council.

Lawsuit: A man is suing Cuyahoga County after a deputy shot him in the back of the head with a beanbag during the May 30, 2020, protests. In the lawsuit, Adam Ferrise reports Conor O’Boyle says he had his hands up and was walking away from handing water to a demonstrator when he was shot.

COVID-19 & HEALTHCARE

Good news: Medina County is the highest of three Northeast Ohio counties considered among the top 500 healthiest communities in the country, according to the 2022 U.S. News and World Report Healthiest Communities Rankings. Julie Washington reports that the other two top-ranking Northeast Ohio counties were Geauga and Lake. Cuyahoga, Summit and other Northeast Ohio counties did not make the list.

BUSINESS

TimkenSteel fine: OSHA proposed fining TimkenSteel of Canton more than $300,000 in the case of a 65-year-old worker the federal agency said died from unsafe working conditions. Laura Hancock reports it's the third time the company has been cited for safety failures in the last five years, landing it on OSHA's Severe Violator Enforcement Program, where it will receive increased scrutiny.

CRIME

Stolen puppy: Police recovered a Yorkshire Terrier puppy stolen from Parma Petland last week and charged a 26-year-old man with misdemeanor theft. Kaylee Remington reports that the 9-week-old puppy, valued at $4,899, was returned to the store.

Fatal crash: A 64-year-old Bedford Heights man died after crashing into a daycare center Wednesday morning. Kaylee Remington reports that no children were hurt in the accident.

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

King Elvis: Troy Smith gives a glowing review of Austin Butler's portrayal of the king of rock & roll in Baz Luhrmann's latest epic, "Elvis." Smith noted that it's not often an actor upstages Tom Hanks, who portrays Elvis Presley's longtime manager, Col. Tom Parker.

King James: It goes without saying that LeBron James is the Cleveland Cavs’ top scorer of all time, but how does the rest of the top 10 round out? Zachary Smith ranks the team's other highest point-scorers.
