🏘️ 3D-Printed Homes Become Feasible and Real

A long-time Clark fascination is slowly but surely becoming a reality.

If you guessed pre-fabricated and 3D-printed homes, you’re correct.

The most recent example: a 100-home development just outside of Austin, Texas.

It’s the world’s largest 3D-printed community. Created by Lennar in partnership with Icon, about 75% of the homes have sold.

The homes come in two- and three-bedroom models starting at almost $400,000. They’re all solar-powered.

Lennar co-CEO Stuart Miller touted resistance to hurricane-force winds and fire-resistant materials, also noting that the process of building this neighborhood already has led to efficiency gains in the process.

Each 40-foot printer operates 24 hours a day with an output comparable to 12 construction workers.

“I feel safer in this house than any house I’ve ever lived in, because it’s so well built, it’s not going to burn down,” said Holly Feekings, who pays $26 a month in electricity in her printed home.
