Representative Mike Nearman must resign, and if he refuses, he should be expelled.
In December, during a special session of the Oregon Legislature, Nearman opened a door to allow armed, violent rioters to enter the Oregon Capitol building and attack Oregon State Police and put his House colleagues and everyone else in the Capitol building in grave danger.
Nearman has already been criminally charged in Marion County, but new video evidence that surfaced this week shows him giving detailed instructions on how to get his help to breach Capitol security, confirming his actions were planned days in advance.
The Oregon House of Representatives has a duty to ensure the safety and well-being of legislators and Oregon Capitol personnel. Nearmanâs words and, more importantly, his actions have proven that he is unfit to serve and cannot be trusted with the duties and responsibilities of a member of the Oregon Legislature.
If Rep. Nearman refuses to resign, it's time for his colleagues in the Oregon House of Representatives to do the right thing and hold Representative Nearman accountable for his actions and expel him.
