Dear Reader,

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah Winfrey was always expected to make headlines, but the reality was still staggering. There were numerous revelations and allegations that on their own would have been front-page news. Camilla Tominey analyses all the key claims here, the impact they might have and what the other side of the story is. Camilla also details the inside story of the rift with the Royal family in this piece.

The first few months of Britain’s post-Brexit relationship with the EU have gone far from smoothly. The row over closing the Irish border to vaccines was only the most visible element of strained ties. Lord Frost, newly appointed to the Cabinet to take a harder line with Brussels, wasted little time in making his mark by taking unilateral action on the border issue. He wrote for The Telegraph explaining his actions and warning the EU to treat Britain as an equal.

Tom Jones may have entered his ninth decade, but he’s about to release his 40th album. Ahead of its launch, he spoke to Neil McCormick for an interview that is equal parts moving and energetic. They discuss the highs of his career, but also the vagaries of ageing and Jones’s move back to Britain after the loss of his wife.

Finally, today is International Women’s Day. Among the many things sustaining inequality between the sexes is the unequal division of household labour, a fact only exacerbated by lockdown and the closure of schools. To get an idea of how significant the gap is, Rebecca Reid asked five women to calculate the true monetary value of their housework. It’s an eye-opening read.
