Public works crews continued flushing sewers near the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus overnight, after an explosion Thursday afternoon prompted the evacuation of several buildings along and near University Avenue.

The Minneapolis Fire Department says it appears there was gasoline in the sewer system, but the source of that gasoline and how it ignited is not yet known. Some streets remained closed overnight.
