Dear John,

I was recently asked by my good friend Bob Beaudine how Dad dealt with loss and grief. It was a long conversation and covered a lot of territory and then he asked: “How did your Dad ‘do the work’ when he was intensely grieving?”

In my own life I have never seen anyone grieve as intensely as Dad did. Dad loved immensely and unconditionally and with that blessing also comes the possibility of deep sorrow and grief. I saw this first hand. Even in the midst of the grief Dad still had the ability to “do the work” and impact lives.

Why

Dad had incredible clarity on his Why – his Purpose – his Calling. He knew he was here on earth to serve God’s children and to encourage, inspire, and show them that God had incredible things in store for them. This Why allowed Dad to show up even when he didn’t feel like it, to prepare even when he didn’t want to, and to give what he had knowing that God would make up the difference. In short, Dad did the best he could with what he had and left the rest up to God.

Was it easy for Dad? No.

Was it worth it? Yes.

What about you? Will it be easy for you? No. Will it be worth it? Yes.

It starts with Why.

I Choose To Win!

Tom
