Rachel Karman leads a ministry for children who are or have been homeless, but that’s not how she phrases it.

Instead, Karman insists that she gets to lead such a ministry. The role God has placed her in not only serves as Karman’s occupation but as the place where she has the privilege of both loving and being loved, of teaching and learning alike.

In “What Can Homeless Kids Teach Us About Faith and Living Well?” Karman highlights three of the lessons she has learned from the children she serves:

• There is no end to the love of Christ.
• There is no person to small for the love of Christ.
• Christ can teach me about himself through those who are marginalized.

While most of us do not have as much direct contact with people on the margins as Karman does, we all encounter meaningful opportunities for seeing and serving Jesus by caring for people in difficult situations. As school begins, may we keep our eyes open for the people and places that we can one day say we get to love.
