INSURANCE CRISIS: Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says he might seek a special session of the Legislature if two of its committees do not approve his plans this week to relaunch a multimillion-dollar incentive program. Donelon’s comments come amid a spiraling crisis in Louisiana’s property insurance market, which has seen at least 23 insurers pull up stakes or fail altogether since 2020’s Hurricane Laura. To right the ship, Donelon wants to give grants to insurance companies to write property insurance in the state.
