“I think 1990s GT1 racing cars are so popular today for two reasons. Firstly, they were beautiful and actually looked like the road cars upon which they were based – the livery discerns racing cars today, while the shape identified them back then. Secondly, it’s a generation thing. When I meet people in their forties, they remember watching these cars racing as teenagers and driving them on the PlayStation. It really was a golden era of endurance racing. You often see McLaren F1 GTRs and Mercedes-Benz CLK GTRs at major events, but because Nissan kept all of its R390s, these purebred racers are much rarer and far less is known about them. I love exotic cars and always try to find the rarest, so I’m really happy to be able to present this R390 GT1, the only example in private hands, at Rétromobile.”
