The Nova Scotia shooting encapsulates all that's wrong with the Mounties

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “We’re the Wild West” — Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, after the state’s Republican-dominated Supreme Court invalidated an extension to Evers’s stay-at-home order, resulting in reopened bars packed with customers. Last month, state Republicans won a court order restricting mail-in ballots; around 60 people who lined up to vote later tested positive for COVID-19.

The number of Canadians infected with COVID-19 has passed 73,000, while 5,500 people have died. Worldwide, 4.4 million people have been infected while 300,000 have died.

The number of COVID-19 cases at emergency daycares in Quebec keeps rising. A centre in Rosemont just closed for two weeks after two siblings tested positive. So far, the Quebec government reports 43 cases in daycares, including 10 at emergency ones for essential workers, Global News reports.

Last month, the vaccine expert was removed as the director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority by the Trump administration. He alleges it was because of political pressure from that administration.

For those wondering about when and how international travel will return, the exhaustive steps that Chor went through may be an eye-opener. (First part of thread here, second part here.)

Those we’ve lost: During the Second World War, Alexander Feingold survived Auschwitz and an infamous death march to the Bergen-Belsen death camp while his brother Joseph endured deprivations in a Soviet labour camp in Siberia. They died less than a month apart in New York from COVID-19. Joseph was 97, his brother Alexander was 95, the Associated Press reports.
