Three years ago, as Britain left the European Union, the Guardian made a commitment to becoming more, not less, European.

Now, we are going further, launching a new Europe digital edition to serve our audience of millions across the continent. Guardian Europe will be a dedicated English-language site for our readers in Europe, showcasing original, independent journalism that highlights the issues that matter to them.

We already have a superb team of correspondents across the continent, and have been on the ground almost every day since the outset of the war in Ukraine. We have added specialists in crucial Europe-wide themes such as the environment, culture, community affairs and sport.

We are asking our readers to get behind this bold new commitment by supporting us financially. To support Guardian Europe and all our journalism, please consider setting up a monthly amount, from just £2.

Coming up this weekend
The weekend starts early with England v Scotland in the inaugural Women's Nations League on Friday night – Sarina Wiegman's side are hosts at the Stadium of Light (7.45pm kick-off, all times BST).

Saturday kicks off with day two foursome and fourball matches at the Solheim Cup in Andalucía (from 7.20am). The forecast also looks good for play in the second ODI between England and Ireland at Trent Bridge (from 11am) after Wednesday's washout at Headingley. Another busy day of Rugby World Cup fixtures kicks off with Georgia v Portugal (1pm). The Premier League joins the fray with our clockwatch (from 2pm) before more rugby union with England v Chile (4.45pm), more football as Brentford host Everton, and finally, a real heavyweight tussle: world champions South Africa v Ireland (8pm). At the same time, Burnley will be hoping to give Erik ten Hag's Manchester United another bloody nose.

On Sunday, you'll have some fast-paced entertainment, with racers at the Japanese Grand Prix hurtling for the first corner at 6am, before a tasty north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham kicks off at the Emirates Stadium (2pm). The third and final day of the Solheim Cup begins with the first of 12 singles matches teeing off at 11.10am. Sheffield United host Newcastle (4.30pm) to close the weekend's Premier League action, while Scotland return to Rugby World Cup action against Tonga (4.45pm) and Wales face Australia (8pm), with Eddie Jones sure to have his side fired up after the Wallabies' defeat by Fiji last Sunday.

… there is a good reason why NOT to support the Guardian

Not everyone can afford to pay for news right now. That is why we keep our journalism open for everyone to read. If this is you, please continue to read for free.

But if you are able to, then there are THREE good reasons to support us today.

1

Our quality, investigative journalism is a scrutinising force at a time when the rich and powerful are getting away with more and more

2

We are independent and have no billionaire owner pulling the strings, so your money directly powers our reporting

3

It doesn’t cost much, and takes less time than it took to read this message

Help power the Guardian’s journalism for the years to come, whether with a small sum or a larger one. If you can, please support us on a monthly basis from just £2. It takes less than a minute to set up, and you can rest assured that you're making a big impact every single month in support of open, independent journalism. Thank you.
