Coming up this weekend
The weekend’s live action kicks off on Friday evening at 7.30pm (all times BST) when Manchester United host Arsenal in the WSL. At 8pm the Rugby World Cup hosts France will hope to book their place in the last eight by keeping their perfect record when they take on Italy in Lyon.

On to Saturday and there’s a 12.30pm start in the Premier League with Tottenham aiming to go top of the table (for a few hours at least) when they travel to Kenilworth Road to take on Luton. At 3pm, we’ll bring you goal updates on the four Premier League matches, including Everton v Bournemouth and Manchester United v Brentford, as well as the key match action elsewhere in our Saturday football clockwatch. And at 5.30pm we’ll have live coverage of Crystal Palace v Nottingham Forest. In the Rugby World Cup we have Wales v Georgia at 2pm, England – who have already qualified – taking on Samoa at 4.45pm and then there is a crucial clash at the Stade de France at 8pm, with Ireland taking on a Scotland side who will need to cause an upset to stay in the tournament. Oh, and we will also be covering the Qatar GP F1 sprint race at 6.30pm, too, when Max Verstappen could be crowned champion a day before the race proper.

On Sunday, the Cricket World Cup hosts, India, take on Australia at 9.30am in Chennai. We’ll have over-by-over coverage of that one. The WSL kicks off our football coverage with Manchester City v Chelsea at 12.30pm. It’s then on to Brighton v Liverpool in the Premier League at 2pm and a huge early-season meeting of last season’s top two, when Arsenal host Manchester City at the Emirates at 4.30pm. We’ll be across all three matches in the Rugby World Cup, with Japan v Argentina (12pm), Tonga v Romania (4.45pm) and Fiji v Portugal (8pm) and we’ll have lap-by-lap coverage of F1’s Qatar Grand Prix at 6pm.

… there is a good reason why NOT to support the Guardian

Not everyone can afford to pay for news right now. That is why we keep our journalism open for everyone to read. If this is you, please continue to read for free.

But if you are able to, then there are THREE good reasons to support us today.

1

Our quality, investigative journalism is a scrutinising force at a time when the rich and powerful are getting away with more and more

2

We are independent and have no billionaire owner pulling the strings, so your money directly powers our reporting

3

It doesn’t cost much, and takes less time than it took to read this message

Help power the Guardian’s journalism for the years to come, whether with a small sum or a larger one. If you can, please support us on a monthly basis from just £2. It takes less than a minute to set up, and you can rest assured that you're making a big impact every single month in support of open, independent journalism. Thank you.
