Coming up this weekend
The live action kicks off on Saturday afternoon as this year's Tour de France heads off from Florence – the 206km slog to Rimini begins at noon (all times BST). Can anybody stop Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar, who have won the last four between them? Then it's a one-off race for a different prize, as the T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa arrives in Bridgetown (3.30pm start). From there the Euro 2024 knockout stages kick off, with Switzerland v Italy at 5pm and hosts Germany v Denmark at 8pm in the last 16.

Into Sunday, and the second women's ODI between England and New Zealand takes place at Worcester (11am start), before the second stage of the Tour – a 198.7km jaunt from Cesenatico to Bologne – kicks into gear from 12.15pm. Lando Norris has been giving Max Verstappen plenty to think about in recent grands prix – who will come out on top in Austria at 3pm? And the weekend's live offerings end with two more Euro 2024 last-16 matches: England v Slovakia at 5pm and Spain v Georgia at 8pm.

… there is a good reason why not to support the Guardian

Not everyone can afford to pay for news right now. That is why we keep our journalism open for everyone to read. If this is you, please continue to read for free.

But if you are able to, then there are three good reasons to support us today.

1

Our quality, investigative journalism is a powerful force for scrutiny at a time when the rich and powerful are getting away with more and more

2

We are independent and have no billionaire owner telling us what to report, so your money directly powers our reporting

3

It doesn’t cost much, and takes less time than it took to read this message

Help power the Guardian’s journalism in this crucial year of news, whether with a small sum or a larger one. If you can, please support us on a monthly basis . It takes less than a minute to set up, and you can rest assured that you're making a big impact every single month in support of open, independent journalism. Thank you.
