Train coming: After years of work, rail and mass transit advocates are celebrating the expected arrival early next year of regular Amtrak service between Mobile and New Orleans. The connection has been missing since Hurricane Katrina, but as Stephanie Riegel reports, officials hope the line — with stops in four Mississippi cities along the way — will be in service in time for the Super Bowl.
Mass transit problems: On a related note, public transit in metro New Orleans appears to be at a crossroads after struggling for nearly two decades with service problems. Blake Paterson has a look at what recent blows to the system mean for its future.
Pool reopened: The city announced Saturday that the West Bank of New Orleans finally has a public pool again, with the reopening of the Federal City Pool. Gabriella Killett has the details.
