HP's Beautiful Holiday Ad Brings Gen Z Activists' and Scientists' Dreams to Life
 

We've been wondering what to expect from big holiday ads this year, given the (waves hands at everything), but for better or worse we're mostly just seeing the usual.

Aldi went, once again, with a charming animated tale of family. Disney opted for...you guessed it, a charming animated tale of family.

But HP goes in a laudably different direction—one timed perfectly to coincide with the election of Kamala Harris, America's first female vice president and first person of color to become vp.

In the ad, we meet four rising creators—Jacqueline Azah, Tiana Day, Fionn Ferreira and Kavya Kopparapu—who are using technology to spread messages of tolerance, sustainability, peace and greater diversity in STEM.

Created by agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners (arguably the most socially progressive agency of the year in both its client and pro-bono work), the spot avoids being preachy and instead is rich in both style and substance.

Will more marketers follow suit? I certainly hope so. Heartwarming animated tales of animals, food and doe-eyed children are great and all, but I think we're good on that front.
