Dear Friend,
Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!
The Right to Life Reaffirmed
For decades, many of our hearts have been broken by a judicial decision that has wrongfully prohibited states from protecting unborn children. Today, the Supreme Court finally took an important step in reaffirming the God-given right to life by returning the power to the people and the states, where it belongs. Moving forward, I’ll continue working to support both children and their mothers in every stage of life. Click here for my full statement on the Court’s decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
Support for Israel
The Biden administration recently opened what amounts to a de facto U.S. consulate to the Palestinians in Jerusalem — flying in the face of the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995. This unprecedented action signals support for dividing Jerusalem at a time when the U.S. should be standing strong with our ally Israel. I released a full statement this week, along with more than 80 of my colleagues in the House and Senate, urging the Biden administration to reverse course and vowing to work together to support Israel. Help for Grandparents Raising Kids
Approximately one in every 11 kids in America is being raised by grandparents or other relatives. As someone who grew up in a house with loving grandparents, I know the impact they can make on a child's life. That’s why I’m working to ensure grandparents taking on the crucial task of raising children have all the tools they need.
As ranking member of the Senate Aging Committee, I held a hearing this week, along with Chairman Casey (D-Pa.) on supporting these “grandfamilies.” I also introduced a bill, along with Chairman Casey and Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) to require states to provide information on additional support to grandparents who apply for assistance with raising children.
