Good morning and thanks for joining us. Here are some of the day's top headlines. The Stones roll: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards & Co. performed to roughly 40,000 elated fans at Jazz Fest on Thursday night, at one point bringing Irma Thomas on stage for a duet of her song, "Time Is On My Side." As Keith Spera writes, the Rolling Stones' journey to the festival stage was a long one, but — in Jagger's words — "We finally made it!" We've got photos here. The show also featured a testy but good-natured exchange between Jagger and Gov. Jeff Landry. Restricting access: Louisiana lawmakers want to criminalize the possession of the abortion-inducing drugs misoprostol and mifepristone, putting them in the same category as opioids and depressants. But it's a bill that public health officials say makes little sense. Emily Woodruff has this report. Gator alert: A massive alligator spotted in Chalmette on Thursday turned out to be dead, but that didn't stop its presence from causing an accident that sent a car into the bayou. Kasey Bubnash has the story here. Thanks for reading, and check out all the latest news, sports and entertainment coverage from The Times-Picayune. Chad |
