Good evening,

It’s a sobering thought, isn’t it?

That by the middle of October we will be seeing 49,000 cases of Covid-19 per day and by mid-November about 200 deaths per day.

Those stark statistics, made clear by the country’s top medical and scientific men, will have caused a sharp intake of breath for many.

Of course, there are those who simply don’t believe this; who believe that it is scaremongering on a massive scale.

But while these figures might represent the worst case scenario, there is clearly huge concern in medical circles about the current direction of travel.

Perhaps we have opened up society too quickly in an attempt to save sectors of the economy which were on their knees. But the good news is that by calling it out, we have a chance to do something about it before it is too late.

So, let’s get back to the community spirit we saw during lockdown. Let’s care about our neighbours as well as ourselves. And most of all, take the precautions we know we need to in order that we all stay safe.

Feel free to drop me a line with your views at gillian.parkinson@jpimedia.co.uk.

Until next time, stay safe.
