The run to Paris begins

The journey of a thousand miles, the old saying goes, begins with but a single step. With that in mind, the goal of making it to the Paris Olympics got off on the right foot Friday night for a host of current and former LSU stars at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Oregon.

The LSU contingent that competed was a perfect 6-for-6 in their attempts to advance on the first day of the trials, which run thorugh June 30. Sha'Carri Richardson, world No. 1 in the women's 100-meter dash, was a headliner, as were Aleih Hobbs of LSU, Vernon Norwood (pictured here) and Michalea Rose.

The LSU athletes competing to go to the Paris Olympics are focused on a relatively short-term goal. LSU football coach Brian Kelly and his staff are thinking long term when it comes to recruiting. Thursday the word came that Kelly's Tigers have their first commitment for the Class of 2026 in four-star defensive tackle Richard Anderson, whose hometown in Arkansas is just across the Mississippi from Memphis.

Finally, our Koki Riley is keeping track of all of LSU's comings and goings with his world-renowned transfer portal tracker.

Enjoy your sporting weekend, everyone.
